Earth & Fire: Primitive Pottery for Beginners
This hands-on workshop invites participants into the foundational act of turning earth into vessel. Working with locally sourced clay, students learn how to select, process, and shape material using simple tools and direct touch. Each piece is formed slowly, with attention to weight, balance, and the quiet decisions that shape functional objects.
The experience culminates in a traditional pit firing, where fire becomes the final and decisive force. Participants witness how heat, ash, and atmosphere transform raw clay into durable ceramic, revealing surfaces that cannot be fully controlled or repeated. No prior experience is required, only a willingness to work with the material, engage the process, and get your hands dirty.
